I always want to ensure that people fully understand what it is we exactly do at Health For Life, but when I say to them I can give “Pain relief – at the touch of the buttons” they always go but how?! That’s where the discussion of Acupressure comes in, and people between to think needles. That is because they are thinking of Acupuncture NOT Acupressure. Yes the same principles are used, but Acupressure DOESN’T use needles compared to Acupuncture. Now you may ask so what really is Acupressure so? Well here you go:

The word “Acu” means Needle and “Pressure” means heaviness, but through the use of Electro-Acupressure a placement of a probe is put on particular points in your body, not a needle(s) as people may think. Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing art using the energy flow within your body. The technique involves applying pressure to certain meridian points on the body to relieve pain (The meridians connect the interior and exterior of the body). Throughout your whole body there is fourteen meridians, with over 800 vital energy points on these points, starting with ones at your fingertips which then connect to the brain and back to the organ associated with the specific meridian. When these acupressure points are stimulated, they release muscular tension, promote circulation of blood, and enhance the body’s life force energy to aid healing.

Not only that, but acupressure deals with all the aspects of a person as a whole: body, emotions, mind, and spirit as one, not as separate parts. It relaxes muscular tension and balances the vital life forces of the body. The main conditions for which people commonly find acupressure treatment to be effective are:

• Allergies
• Asthma
• Sinusitis
• Headaches
• Back Pain
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• Dizziness
• High Blood Pressure
• Chronic Fatigue
• Menstrual Irregularities
• Uterine Problems
• Asthma
• Cough
• Digestive Problems
• Behavioural Problems
• Ear Infections
• Sleep Problems
• Pain Relief

Furthermore, a study published online by the British Medical Journal in 2006 noted that acupressure may be more effective than physical therapy and it has been found that the effects of the therapy were not short term, as the results lasted for six months. I truly believe that in my own personal life I wouldn’t have been able to overcome back pain, stress, tiredness, injuries, just to name a few without Acupressure, and more so Electro-Acupressure.
